The 34th annual Lewiston Harvest Festival and Craft Show will take place from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 23-24. This year, there's a big change to the festival: Center Street will be closed from Fourth to Seventh streets. Vendors will be set up in the street to ease congestion for attendees and allow more room throughout the festival, leaving areas in front of retail storefronts open for customers.
"We have a wide variety of vendors this year - everything from clothing to candles, to jewelry and much more," said Christina Crane, sales and marketing manager for the event organizer, the Niagara River Region Chamber of Commerce. "In addition, we will have our farmer's market area with local produce, baked goods and a couple wineries from the Niagara Wine Trail."
Another addition to this year's festival will be International Music in the Peace Garden. Sponsored in conjunction with Lewiston Council on the Arts and the Lewiston/Niagara-on-the-Lake Rotary Club, the music of different cultures will be presented both days (including Native American, Scottish, African American, Latin American, Middle Eastern, Polish, Japanese and Italian; find the schedule HERE).
"The Lewiston Harvest Festival is a local favorite in the Niagara River Region, because there is plenty to do for the whole family," Crane said. "We love bringing people into the community and seeing them make the most out this weekend by not only attending the festival, but visiting the restaurants and retail shops within the village, as well."
A number of Lewiston businesses will have entertainment, promotions and other specials throughout the weekend. This is a leadoff of what is to come for the Lewiston Harvest Festival in 2018, when the Chamber of Commerce will incorporate an Oktoberfest presence into the festival.
During this year's Harvest Festival weekend:
•Apple Granny Restaurant (433 Center St.) will feature beer and chicken wing specials.
•Brewed & Bottled Craft Beer Shop (402 Center St.) will welcome Gun Hill Brewery from the Bronx from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday, and Woodcock Brothers Brewery from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday.
•The Brickyard Brewing Company (432 Center St.) will have a "mini" Oktoberfest.
•Chantilly Rose (480 Center St.) is offering 30 percent off the April Cornell clothing line, as well as Victorian lamps.
•Spice Harbor (476 Center St.) will have a tent set up in the festival outside of the store, and will sample fall products including apple, caramel and pumpkin.
•The Lewiston Stone House (755 Center St.) outside patio will serve favorites, including apple pie sangria and slushies; pumpkin, caramel and apple martinis; plus patio grill specials.
