The Grand Island Lions Club named Neighbors Foundation President Henry Kammerer a Melvin Jones Fellow during the club's general meeting Wednesday in the Radisson Grand Island.
Lion Paul Bassette said the fellowship is named after the founder of Lions Club International, Melvin Jones, and honors a Lion or non-Lion for humanitarian service.
Kammerer has been a member of the Neighbors Foundation for 43 years and a member of the Grand Island Rotary Club for 50 years. "As a Rotarian, I do appreciate what Lions have done in so many areas," Kammerer told the Lions. He added Lions support of the Miracle League Field inspired other clubs like Rotary to likewise step up to the plate and support the baseball diamond for ballplayers with special needs.
The Lions also held the installation ceremony for five new members to the club: Jeanine Justen, Danielle and Jim Rose, Sarah Sweeney and Cindy Sharpe.
