One month to the day after an EF-2 tornado hit the Erie County Fairgrounds, the 178th Erie County Fair in Hamburg concluded its 12-day run Sunday night.
Final attendance for 2017 is 1,193,279. This is a 21 percent increase from 2016, and represents the second-highest-attended event in the Erie County Fair's history. (The all-time record was achieved in 2014: 1,220,101 fairgoers).
In a press release Monday, Erie County Fair public relations spokesman Marty Biniasz wrote, "The fair's success cannot only be measured in people, but in vendors, exhibits and, most importantly, in memories.
"The Erie County Agricultural Society would like to thank Western New York for its continued support of the Erie County Fair. Fair organizers have already begun planning next year's 'Best 12 Days of Summer.' "
The 179th Erie County Fair is scheduled for Aug. 8-19, 2018.
The Erie County Agricultural Society is a private not-for-profit membership organization. Established in 1819, the society is the oldest civic organization in Western New York. The mission of the Erie County Agricultural Society, sponsors of the Erie County Fair, is to preserve and enhance, by educational endeavors, the agricultural and historical legacy of New York state. The fair strives to fulfill appropriate aspects of the agricultural, educational, entertainment and recreational needs of Western New York.
