Fire Chief Chris Soluri reports that the Grand Island Fire Co. recently took delivery of a 2017 INMAR 20.2-foot rigid hull inflatable boat, powered by a Honda 135 horsepower outboard motor.
The new inflatable boat will replace an aging 15-year-old Zodiac vessel. It can reach speeds of up to 40 miles per hour and can hold 10 individuals. A floating fire pump can be operated as needed.
This vessel, designated as MU-2, will be docked at the Big Six Marina, while MU-1 is birthed at River Oaks Marina.
Soluri stressed that this marine unit upgrade significantly increases GIFC firefighting and rescue capabilities on both branches of the Niagara River.
