Karolina (Karolyn) Albertsson, May 31, 2017, age 57.
Karolyn was born in Akureyri, Iceland, a small town on a fjord just 36 miles south of the Arctic Circle. Icelandic was her first language before moving to Grand Island with her family at 3 years of age.
Karolyn attended Grand Island High School, played the clarinet, and graduated in 1978. Following graduation, she joined the United States Air Force and served as a Minuteman Intercontinental Ballistic Missile mechanic. Karolyn was stationed in Misawa, Japan, (seven years), Texas, Illinois, North Dakota, New York state, and Guam during her 17 years in military and civilian roles on military bases.
Upon repatriation from Guam, Karolyn and her family moved to Grand Island and then settled in Crawford, Mississippi, in 1997, where she spent 14 years in various supervisory roles at Weyerhaeuser. In recent years, Karolyn and her partner built a home remodeling business.
Karolyn loved animals and rescued numerous abandoned cats and dogs over the years, nursing them back to health and providing them a loving home, a testament to her kind and generous heart. She loved spending time with family and friends, canning preserves harvested from her plum trees and garden, attending NASCAR races, photography, long walks in the park, crocheting, and restoring her vintage Mustang.
Karolyn is survived by her beloved partner, Roger McGee; son, Christopher Pace stationed in South Korea; daughter, Kristy Pace of Crawford, Mississippi; granddaughter, AlteriaDawn Pace of Crawford; sister, Candice Albertsson of Cleveland, Ohio; brother, Jon G. (Laurie) Albertsson of Grand Island; and niece, Amanda Albertsson of Grand Island. Karolyn was preceded by her beloved parents, Jon G. and Dolores (Allgaier) Albertsson.
Visitation was held at Carson Funeral Home in Columbus, Mississippi, on June 2. A celebration of her life was held at Pleasant Ridge House of Worship in Crawford, on June 3. Interment was in Pleasant Ridge Cemetery in Crawford.
