The volunteers of Bond Lake Park will hold their annual BugFest on Sunday, Aug. 20, at Bond Lake Park. Everyone is invited to join in from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. in the Bond Lake Nature Center on Lower Mountain Road in the Town of Lewiston.
Don't be squeamish: No children are too young or too old for this afternoon of bug displays, books and activities. Displays of all kinds will give an up-close view of insects and insect life, and help visitors understand the benefits of having insects in the world.
Examine pinned insects up-close with lenses and a microscope. There will be insects to touch and, weather-permitting, a "Bug Walk" is planned for 1 p.m. through the grasses and shrubs immediately surrounding the Bond Lake Park Nature Center.
During the walk, guests find and identify as many insects as possible. Those with a special "bug jar" are encouraged to bring it on the walk. All collected insects will be released back into the park at the end of the walk.
BugFest is free to attend, and will take place rain or shine. For more information about BugFest at Bond Lake Park, visit www.freewebs.com/bondlake or email [email protected].
The Friends of Bond Lake Park is a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting the beauty of the park and to educating the public about the local, natural environment. The committee maintains the Bond Lake Park Nature Center and holds various public events throughout the year.
