Mon, Jul 17th 2017 07:00 am
The Sanborn Area Historical Society will present the 13th annual Sanborn-Lewiston Farm Museum Festival from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, July 22, and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, July 23, at the museum, 2660 Saunders Settlement Road (Route 31), Sanborn.
The free, family-friendly event will offer an array of activities throughout the weekend.
On both days of the event, visitors can ride around the grounds on a horse-drawn wagon, watch a performance by the Native American Niagara River Iroquois Dancers and enjoy the event's traditional tractor parades.
Antique tractors and a classic car show will also be at the event for people to check out.
Each morning will start off with a home-cooked meal, with a pancake breakfast offered from 8-11 a.m. Saturday and a French toast breakfast from 8-11 a.m. Sunday.
A bake sale and other food offerings will also be available during the event.
Besides tasting homemade goodies, visitors can shop for produce from local vendors, handmade items at the event's craft show, as well as other unique items at the on-site flea market. A basket auction will also be featured.
Children can participate in various activities, including checking out the G-Gage train, located indoors.
Wild Kritters of Niagara County will be at the event, and visitors can learn about a variety of unique animals.
Live music and entertainment by local performers will be featured throughout the event.
Also, visitors can take a look at the museum's historic barn and other buildings, which house exhibits displaying antique items. Some of the historical items include furniture, farm equipment, china, utensils and other trinkets.
Proceeds from the basket auction will support the museum, as well its future projects, including furthering the restoration of a former 1840s Mennonite church that most recently was used by the Sanborn American Legion Post No. 969.
Sanborn Area Historical Society President Bill Read stated in a newsletter that work continues on the building, with the completion of a front porch, side porch and bell tower. A bell is expected to be added to the tower soon. Also, drywall has been installed inside the building, and painting of the walls has begun.
Read stated a grant submission to purchase display cases and other necessary items has been prepared for the building, as well.
More work has also been completed on a parking lot, lighting, roadways and a sewer line at the farm with the help of Greenway funds.
Read said a sidewalk between the Legion and Townsend buildings on the museum's campus is being installed, as well as paved handicap parking space.
