Suspect of gas station robbery identified through Buffalo Crime Stoppers
Erie County Sheriff Timothy B. Howard on Monday reported sheriff's detectives arrested Michael Church of Buffalo for the armed robbery of a gas station on Grand Island.
Last Friday, detectives learned of the suspect's location and arrested Church, 39, at a family member's residence.
Authorities stated a male entered the Mobile Station at 1837 Love Road about 10:13 p.m. on Friday, July 14. He displayed a black handgun and demanded cash, then took an undetermined amount from the clerk and fled south on foot toward the state parkway.
Church is charged with first-degree robbery - a class-B felony - and misdemeanor menacing and petit larceny counts. The defendant is being held at the Erie County Holding Center on $50,000 cash bail or $100,000 bond.
Numerous tips were received through the Buffalo Crime Stoppers tipline, which assisted detectives in developing information for the identity of the suspect and his location. Then, detectives executed a search warrant at Church's residence on Military Road in the City of Buffalo. During the search, detectives discovered evidence that connected the suspect to the Grand Island armed robbery.
Church also is a suspect in other armed robberies in the area.
He is innocent unless proven guilty.
