Elinore (Grey) Spiesz was born June 15, 1917, in Buffalo. She grew up there in a large, loving family. She met her future husband, Benjamin Spiesz, before World War II, and after he returned from serving in the U.S. Navy, they were married.
They moved their young family to Grand Island in 1956. Elinore worked part time in Grand Island schools while raising her family, and for many years after. She worked in the cafeteria and made many lifelong friends.
Her husband died in 2001 and about seven years later she moved to Florida to live with her daughter, Janet (Spiesz) Allen, and her family. She was very well cared for and suffered numerous physical trials in her final years. She passed away peacefully, June 11, just four days before her 100th birthday.
She inspired her entire family and all who knew her with her amazing strength, perseverance, grace and faith. She lived a beautiful life and will be greatly missed.
Besides her daughter Janet, Elinore is survived by her sons Andrew and David, nine grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and a brother, James Grey. She was predeceased by eight brothers and sisters.
Friends may call Friday, June 16, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Kaiser Funeral Home, 1950 Whitehaven Road. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday at 10 a.m. at St. Stephen R.C. Church. Memorials may be made to Trust Bridge Hospice, West Palm Beach, Florida.
