Beginning at 5 a.m. Monday, June 26, the stairs into the Niagara Gorge at Devils Hole State Park will be closed for three days so that rock scaling can take place. The stairs are expected to be reopened the morning of Thursday, June 29. Rock scaling is performed regularly to protect trail users from falling rock.
Access to the gorge will be available via the Great Gorge Railway Trail (begins at Niagara Gorge Discovery Center), the whirlpool stairs, the suspension bridge stairs (under the Whirlpool Bridge) and the elevator at the Schoellkopf Power Plant Ruins at Niagara Falls State Park. Fishing access is also available at Artpark and at the New York Power Authority south access road fishing platform.
