Free concert on banks of Erie Canal
Readers can enjoy a chicken barbecue dinner and a free concert beside the Erie Canal at "Fun, Food and Folk" on Friday, July 7.
The Traveling Towpath Troubadours will entertain in Lockport to celebrate the Erie Canal's bicentennial, as Chiavetta's offers its famous barbecued chicken dinner, just outside the Erie Canal Discovery Center, 24 Church St.
Chiavetta's will sell chicken from 5-7 p.m., or until gone, and the Towpath Troubadours will perform from 6-8 p.m. Concert admission is free. The History Center will benefit from a percentage of dinner sales, which are $10 each.
In the event of rain, the Discovery Center will house the program.
Troubadours Kay and Bill McDonald are journeying along the Canal in July, performing in communities along the way. Event organizers said the duo's good-time music was a big hit last year and promises a lot of fun for all ages to share. The Troubadours will perform music of the 1960s and '70s, plus original compositions.
The Towpath Troubadours promote the Erie Canal through music, history, the arts, nature, fitness and more in Canal communities like this one.
This musical program is supported by the New York State Council on the Arts and the Go Art! Program, in partnership with the Orleans County Chamber of Commerce.
Guests should plan to bring your lawn chairs. For additional details, call 716-434-7433.
