Empower, the not-for-profit organization formerly known as Niagara Cerebral Palsy, is moving its hearing clinics to the agency's headquarters at 9812 Lockport Road, in the Town of Niagara. The Yahoo Community Benefit Fund, administered by the Community Foundation for Greater Buffalo, has provided a $9,730 grant to upgrade all of the clinic equipment. Patients will benefit from a new, state-of-the-art audiometer, tympanometer and sound isolation booth.

Licensed by the New York State Department of Health, the clinic provides hearing tests and hearing aids for children and adults with and without disabilities. The clinic accepts Medicare, Medicaid, most private insurances and private payments. It operates through a partnership with Aspire of Western New York, which holds the operating certificate for the clinic and oversees its operations.

For many years, Empower's hearing clinics were located in Niagara County-owned buildings in Niagara Falls and Lockport. Those hearing clinics closed Dec. 31. The new Lockport Road clinic opened Monday. All previously scheduled appointments will be held at the new location. New patients are being accepted, and appointments may be scheduled at 716-297-1478, ext. 154. Information is also available at www.empower-wny.org.

Aspire Executive Director Jeff Paterson said the new location offers easier access.

"Until now, our hearing clinics were well-hidden inside county buildings," he said. "Patients had to wind their way down halls and around corners to find us. At the new location, patients can park right near the door and take a short walk down the main hallway to get to the hearing clinic. And they'll have access to great new equipment, as well."

With 300 employees and a $14 million budget, Empower is one of Western New York's 50 largest nonprofit organizations. The administrative offices, preschool, community clinic and service coordination program are located on Lockport Road in the Town of Niagara. The job training and day programs division is based in Niagara Falls, while residential facilities are located throughout Niagara County.

Licensed by the New York State Office for People with Developmental Disabilities and the New York State Education Department, Empower is an affiliate of the Cerebral Palsy Associations of New York State and is a member agency of the United Way of Greater Niagara.
