Artpark's new festival to be held Aug. 16

Live music, art vendors, food trucks, dance performances and art activities for children are just some of the happenings that will be a part of Artpark's new festival, "ARTsPARKed," on Saturday, Aug. 16. From 11 a.m.-7 p.m., Artpark's lower park will be transformed into an artist marketplace with 80 regional artists selling original works out of the trunks of their cars, with two stages featuring live bands sponsored by Music is Art.

A performance stage will showcase local dance and theater groups, as well as other unique festival fun. Guests can enjoy an array of food from area food trucks (beverages also will be available). Admission and parking for "ARTsPARKed" is free, and all ages are welcome.

"Artpark has historically been a place of experimentation and innovation - an environment that has supported and given venue to every artistic medium, whether it has been paint, guitar or human movement. It seemed a long time in coming that we put on a festival of this nature," said Tanis Winslow, Artpark & Company's director of visual arts and family programs.

Festival highlights include:

•20 bands performing on two different stages

•Performances by various dance and theater groups

•An artist trunk show featuring 80 artists selling work from the trunks of their cars.

•A gallery group show, "Art for Everyone," exhibiting art for $50 or less

•Food trucks Thai Me Up, Lloyd's Taco Truck, Amy's Place, Black Market Food Truck and Sweet Melody's

•Hands-on art activities
