The popular Lewiston Village Pub and Restaurant will soon have a new owner or owners.

Ken Scibetta and Ed Webster, proprietors of the restaurant/bar, released this statement on Facebook Wednesday:

"To Our Wonderful Friends:

"It is with a tremendously heavy heart that we have decided to sell the Lewiston Village Pub; our last day will be Sunday, February 9th, 2014.

"This decision was not an easy one, and came after months of deliberation and reflection. Over the past six years, we have made some incredible memories...from our Cinco de Mayo fiesta with donkeys to Lobsterfest to Wing Night to Club Pub and of course to our favorite and craziest holiday, St. Patrick's Day, it's been a fantastic and crazy ride.

"There are so many memories that can never be replaced. So many of you have been a part of our journey and have seen our growth from a small pub to what is now known as The Pub. We are thankful for our time involved and participation in our community with such organizations as the Lions Club, Kiwanis, Niagara River Region Chamber of Commerce, Lewiston Historical Society, Heart to Heart, Niagara University, Jazzfest and so many other fundraisers throughout the years. We hope you feel that we served you well.

"We will truly miss the Village of Lewiston and the friends and guests who have become like family to us over the years. We are grateful you've allowed us to be part of your lives these many years. However, the support & loyalty of such a close-knit community is what we will miss the most. Lewiston let us realize our dream and for that, we will be forever grateful. We sincerely hope that you will continue our journey with us as we move on to bigger things and we look forward to seeing all of you at the Griffon.

"Stay tuned for future announcements as to the surprise location of our newest endeavor. As one door closes, so many more will open, as this is only the end of one chapter in the novel we call PubLife.

"With our sincerest gratitude and thanks,

"Ken Scibetta and Ed Webster."

The Pub's owners had recently decided to close at 11 p.m. due to difficulties arising from some younger patrons and their interaction with the Lewiston Police Department.

In 2013, Scibetta and Webster opened The Griffon Pub at 2470 Military Road, Niagara Falls. In just a few months, the eatery has netted rave reviews from local and national news outlets. The building formerly housed Auggie's Diner.

In 2007, the duo bought the restaurant business at 840 Center St. It, too, had previous incarnations, most recently as a bar and a pizzeria. On Jan. 19, 2008, Scibetta and Webster opened The Lewiston Village Pub and Wing Company.

The eatery has since morphed into more of a gastropub-meets-fine-dining location.

On Thursday, after 24 hours of reactions to this news, Scibetta said, "I've been in this business 21 years. I have seen hundreds of bars and restaurants close. Never in my career have I seen such an outpouring/amount of support, gratitude, loyalty and press on one restaurant closing. ... It is truly humbling."

Scibetta and Webster are in the process of selling The Pub. Local businessman Jeff Williams owns the building, and will have to approve the new leaseholder. It's not yet known who that person or business is, or if the new management will keep the restaurant name.
