Starts petition drive to rally support

Assemblyman John Ceretto, R-C-I-Lewiston, today rolled out his plan to deliver significant tax relief to Western New York families during the upcoming legislative session. Gov. Andrew Cuomo has expressed interest in changing New York's status as the most taxed state in the country, and Ceretto intends to work with him to make this plan a reality. He is circulating a petition to rally support.

Ceretto's plan has two points:

1. Double the STAR property tax exemption, which would save the average homeowner an additional $700, and the average senior homeowner $1,300 annually.

2. Two percent income tax cut, which would save each middle-class taxpayer an average of $1,033 every year.

Ceretto said this plan is the next step toward delivering real tax relief and building the Western New York economy. He supported a property tax cap and the middle class income tax cut in 2011. He has also been instrumental in bringing new economic development projects to Western New York and the Niagara Falls area. Additionally, Ceretto has helped produce a $2 billion budget surplus. He intends to give this money back to the taxpayers.

"This surplus of funds belongs to the taxpayers, and I plan on giving it back to them," he said. "My tax relief plan will put an average of almost $2,000 back in the bank accounts of Western New York families. You can use this money to pay off your mortgage, invest in your kid's education, or save for retirement. I ask you to please consider signing my petition and help me bring significant tax relief to Western New York families."

Ceretto's petition in support of his Western New York tax relief plan can be found at bit.ly/CerettoWNYTaxRelief and on Ceretto's Facebook page. After the petition gathering is finished, Ceretto will personally deliver the petitions to the governor's office.
