Assemblyman John Ceretto, in an effort to make sure families stay warm this winter, is informing his constituents of home heating assistance available through the New York State Department of Temporary and Disability Assistance. Today, people can apply for New York's Home Energy Assistance Program, which provides up to $650 to eligible households to help pay for heating costs.

"Winter is approaching quickly, so there is no time to waste if you need help heating your home," Ceretto said. "The Home Energy Assistance Program provides important financial help to keep your household warm if you are having trouble paying for energy costs.

"No family should have to be cold during the winter, so I hope that families in need will use this important resource that has been made available to them."

Eligibility for HEAP benefits is based on household size and gross monthly income. A household of one with a monthly gross income under $2,175 and a family of four with an income under $4,182 are both eligible.

More information about eligibility is available at http://otda.ny.gov/programs/heap/ or by phone at 518-473-1090.
