While libraries are known to be quiet places, Niagara Falls is definitely buzzing with activity as the New York State Library Association's three-day annual conference has returned to The Conference & Event Center Niagara Falls. The event began on Thursday and runs through Saturday. It has brought more than 600 attendees and 90 vendors, and an estimated 800 room nights in downtown Niagara Falls hotels. This equates to $750,000 of economic impact on the Niagara Falls community.

This year's conference centers on providing inspiration to spark the imagination of every type of librarian in New York, while addressing current issues and energizing attendees from the academic, public, school and special libraries to be creative, innovative and imaginative.

This year's keynote speaker was Alice Hoffman, author of "The Third Angel, Practical Magic, Here on Earth" (a 1998 Oprah Book Club selection), "The Green Witch," and "Incantation," which tells the story of the persecution of Jews in medieval Spain. Several of Hoffman's books have been adapted into films, including "Practical Magic" and "Aquamarine."

"We are honored to welcome this lively group of librarians to our facility once again," said Global Spectrum's Ryan Coate, general manager of The Conference & Event Center Niagara Falls and Old Falls Street, USA. "Our downtown area is bustling with activity as our guests enjoy eating at area restaurants and spending time at the state park and other attractions. This no doubt is helps generate a tremendous economic impact as we move into our fall season."

Upcoming conferences booked in Niagara Falls include the New York State Builders Association, the Automobile Recyclers Association of New York, and American Agri-Women.
