Niagara University has a received a $30,000 grant from the Health Foundation for Western and Central New York in support of its nursing programs.
Through the two-year grant, titled "Investing in an Elder-Competent Workforce," Niagara will receive $10,000 for the first year, and the balance of the grant will be awarded in year two. The grant will support the enhancement of education specific to the preparation of nursing students so that they can meet the increased and complex needs of the expanding elderly population.
Niagara University now offers three nursing programs: a four-year Bachelor of Science degree in nursing; an RN-to-B.S. completion program (post-associate degree); and an accelerated B.S. in nursing (a one-year post-baccalaureate degree).
Content in classroom instruction and clinical experiences are components of each of the nursing programs at Niagara. The clinical component has been developed in partnership with Catholic Health in Buffalo. The goal of this endeavor is to prepare Niagara nursing graduates who excel in the care of Western and Central New York's elderly population.
The Health Foundation for Western and Central New York is a nonprofit private foundation, the mission of which is to improve the health and health care of the people of Western and Central New York.
