The Niagara Area Foundation, a division of the Community Foundation for Greater Buffalo, is accepting grant applications from nonprofit organizations for the 2013 grant cycle. Applications are due Oct. 15, and are available for submission at www.cfgb.org.

Niagara Area Foundation awards are provided to support the health, human services, arts, civic needs, community development, education and environmental needs of the county. Preference is given to applicants that have the greatest impact on positive youth development and demonstrate collaboration with other organizations.

For 2013, approximately $55,000 is available in grant awards. Niagara Area Foundation awards are built by gifts and bequests from numerous individuals and groups. The foundation has most recently provided grants to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Niagara County, People and Possibilities, and the Old First Niagara Association.

The Niagara Area Foundation was established as an affiliate to the Community Foundation in 2000 by a group of Niagara County individuals who work to provide supports and charity-oriented philanthropic initiatives for Niagara County. For more information, visit www.cfgb.org.

The Community Foundation for Greater Buffalo was established in 1919 to enhance and encourage long-term philanthropy in the Western New York community. The foundation's mission is: "Connecting people, ideas and resources to improve lives in Western New York."
