"Reflections on Japan" will be Martha Haseley's topic when she speaks to the Historical Society of North German Settlements at 7 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 19, at the Wheatfield Community Center.

Haseley is retired after 43 years of teaching Spanish to the children of American forces in Okinawa and Japan. She took the opportunity to travel as much as she could and take lots of pictures. Her talk will include incidents from her life there and observations on the Japanese people and their ways.

Tickets to the group's upcoming traditional pork chop dinner will be available at the meeting for $20. The dinner will be held at 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26, at the Fellowship Hall of St. James Lutheran Church, Bergholz, and is open to everyone. The dinner speaker will be the Rev. Dan Hoffman, who attended a special program in Wittenberg and had the opportunity to preach from Luther's pulpit. For more information, call 716-731-9905.
