University at Buffalo President Satish K. Tripathi issued this statement Thursday:

"We are honored that President Obama chose the University at Buffalo to announce his proposals to make higher education more affordable, reduce college debt and reward schools for their performance in these areas. We're proud to have UB recognized as a national model for ensuring access to a world-class education.

"The president sounded a call today for government and higher education to work together to ensure our nation's students have access to the opportunities that come with a superb education. At UB, we are answering that call every day. We are committed to an exceptional education for our students. Our students learn from the best faculty in the world, and work closely with faculty in their research laboratories and studios. With our 'Finish in Four' program, we are providing our students with the courses and academic resources they need to graduate in four years. UB is focused on preparing leaders for the future, and we want to do everything we can to help our students embark on that future as soon as possible."
