There are many individuals whom have left a distinct mark on the racing community both locally and throughout the Northeast. Two of those made large-scale impacts on the history of Ransomville Speedway.

On Dec. 23, 2012, Ransomville Speedway said farewell to its fearless leader Stan Friesen. Stan had been the driving force behind the Big R since 1973 when he and then co-owner Kurt Uhl took over direction of the racing facility. Stan along with his sons Jamie, Joel, and Alex also would help build up the famed half-mile oval through the last four decades into one of the premier facilities within the auto racing industry. Most recently, Ransomville Speedway earned VP Track of the Year honors for 2012.

On Dec. 5, 1996, Stan and family along with the entire racing community suffered a great loss in the passing of Alex Friesen. Through a tragic snowmobile accident, Alex was taken from all of us way to early in life. So many times you hear, "Where would dirt racing be today if Alex were still with us?"

Honestly, I don't think any of us could dream that big. Alex had a passion unmeasured by most.

On Friday, Aug. 16, Ransomville Speedway and the Friesen family will honor both Stan and Alex with the planting of two maple trees, prior to the annual Alex Friesen Summer Nationals. The ceremony will take place at 5 p.m. in front of the main ticket booth and is open to all who would like to pay their respects and join in the celebration of two great men.
