Assemblyman John Ceretto, R-C-I-Lewiston, today announced his support for the hotel proposed by the Hamister Group in downtown Niagara Falls. The Hamister Group has proposed building a $25 million hotel, $22 million of which would be financed by private investment. The project would create jobs through its construction and upon its completion. It stands to improve the City of Niagara Falls' tax base, promote tourism and provide an influx of cash.

"I hope to see the Hamister Group's plan for a hotel in downtown Niagara Falls approved as quickly as possible," Ceretto said. "A hotel in downtown Niagara Falls will create jobs and promote tourism in an area that desperately needs economic development.

"The land proposed to be used for this project is currently a parking lot that brings little to no economic benefits to the people of Niagara Falls. We should use this land to put people to work and take another step toward improving the economic conditions in this community."

An agreement on the Hamister Group's plan is currently being held up by disagreements over details of the plan, such as the price of the land acquisition. Ceretto said the economic benefits of the proposal, however, are great enough that both sides should be able to come to an agreement that benefits the people of Niagara Falls.

"Though there are disagreements on the way to move forward with this project, everyone involved wants to see economic development and job creation in Niagara Falls," he said. "From that starting point, hopefully, all sides can see past their differences so we can get this project going. The people of Niagara Falls need to see this get approved."
