"Psych: The Musical" to premiere on Sunday, Dec. 15

"Psych" star James Roday and series creator/Executive Producer Steve Franks (finally!) join Twitter

The Psych-O's have spoken! USA Network has unveiled the victor of the first-ever "Psych" fan vote determining the storyline of a new episode for "Psych's" eighth season.

The announcement was made at Comic-Con, during the network's fifth annual "Psych" panel discussion. Psych-O's came out in full force, with "A Nightmare on State Street" racking up more than 50 percent of the vote to make it the indisputable champion.

From acclaimed director and series star, James Roday ("Mr. Yin Presents...", "Heeeeere's Lassie"), comes a new vision in terror, where an exhausted Gus (Dulé Hill) enters dream therapy to understand the cause of his recent night terrors. But after dream therapy, nothing is ever again what it seems. He soon realizes that in dreams, no one can hear you scream!

To see more of what's in store for this season on "Psych," the season eight trailer is available to view below.

Also announced, "Psych: The Musical," a two-hour special episode, will air Sunday, Dec. 15. In this long-awaited special featuring Santa Barbara's finest singing and dancing, Shawn (Roday) and Gus dive into a world that's equal parts mystery and melody to track down an escaped playwright mad man, Z (Anthony Rapp, "Rent"), who, six years earlier, was deemed criminally insane after locking a critic in a back room of the theater that he burnt to the ground. With little to go on and a fear that Z will kill again, Shawn, Gus and the SBPD are forced to consult with the one person Z confided in while in the institution: a dangerous and familiar villain from Shawn's past, who guides them using cryptic clues to reveal what Z is planning next.

The musical was screened at Reading Cinemas in San Diego, where the cast arrived in "Weinermobiles" to greet fans and give a special introduction to the screening.

Both Roday (@JamesRoday) and series Executive Producer Steve Franks (@SteveFranks) joined Twitter and sent out their very first tweets from the "Psych" panel, which featured the show's cast, producers and special guest moderator and recurring series guest star Cary Elwes. The "Princess Bride" star gave fans a behind-the-scenes look into the making of the eighth season of "Psych."
