UB Center for the Arts announces the 2013-14 M&T Bank Dance Series

The Center for the Arts, University at Buffalo, announces the 2013-14 M&T Bank Dance Series. All five performances will be held in the center's Mainstage Theatre. Tickets are available now by subscription only. Performance descriptions follow below.

LehrerDance

  • Saturday, Oct. 5, at 8 p.m.

Buffalo's internationally renowned professional dance company kicks off the season with a stunning concert showcasing the company's trademark blend of artistry and athleticism. Now in its seventh year, LehrerDance already shows a distinctive movement signature and richness of repertory. See them before they leave Buffalo for a three-week, 15-city European tour.

The Shanghai Ballet in 'The Butterfly Lovers'

  • Saturday, Oct. 19, at 8 p.m.

The Shanghai Ballet, under the direction of former principal dancer Xin Lili, has a 34-year history of performing classical Western ballet, contemporary dance, and folk-styled Chinese national ballet. "The Butterfly Lovers," often considered the Chinese equivalent to "Romeo & Juliet," is an audience favorite and features a full corps of graceful dancers, gorgeous costumes, and a touching story of love and loss.

'Tango Fire'

  • Saturday, Nov. 2, at 8 p.m.

Direct from Buenos Aires, the sensational "Tango Fire" presents its new show - "Flames of Desire" - featuring 10 dancers, one of Argentina's finest young singers and a quartet of brilliant musicians.

Limón Dance Company

  • Friday, April 4, 2014, at 8 p.m.

Acclaimed for its dramatic expression, technical mastery and expansive, yet nuanced movement, the Limón Dance Company (founded in 1946) illustrates the timelessness of José Limón's work and vision. The company's repertory, which balances classic works with commissions from contemporary choreographers, is of an unparalleled breadth, creating unique experiences for audiences around the world.

Moscow Festival Ballet in 'Don Quixote'

  • Tuesday, April 8, 2014, at 7:30 p.m.

The Moscow Festival Ballet was founded in 1989 by Sergei Radchenko, legendary principal dancer of the Bolshoi Ballet, and has toured extensively worldwide. Based on an episode from Miguel de Cervantes' classic novel, "Don Quixote" is a full-length ballet in three acts featuring Marius Petipa's choreography.

Tickets are available now by subscription only. Five performance series subscriptions are $124.50 (a 25 percent savings). Series four-packs are also available at a 20 percent discount.
