Darlene Jones, administrative assistant in Niagara University's Admissions Office, received NU's Outstanding Employee Award for July-September 2013. The Rev. Joseph L. Levesque, C.M., Niagara president, presented Jones, a North Tonawanda resident, with the award on Monday.

Jones joined Niagara as a temporary employee in 2001 and, shortly after, became a full-time secretary in the office of human resources. In 2004, she moved on to business services and then joined the admissions office one year later.

A quote from one of her supervisors stated, "Darlene exhibits the warmth and professionalism that personifies Niagara. Her ability to connect with everyone, especially students and their families, makes our job easier and gives prospective students an unforgettable first impression."

In describing Jones's work and commitment to Niagara University and its mission, a supervisor said, "She is always ready and willing to help, and her organizational skills are unparalleled. We are truly blessed to work with someone who lives the Vincentian mission every day."

Jones's Vincentian values and friendly attitude were described in another nomination as well. "Our children are our greatest commodity; therefore, when a family/student starts their journey with a person offering kindness and the true interest of wanting to see this student flourish and excel, it puts them in the comfort zone. I believe this is the friendliness and warmth that families look for when they bring their children to Niagara."

Another nomination spoke of her ongoing commitment to potential students and their families by saying, "Darlene goes the extra mile to make each and every family feel special. She is always on her toes and seeks answers for the questions our families are concerned with. She makes it a point to stay tuned in to departmental changes and new programs. She always adds the personal touch to make our families comfortable."

Nominations for the quarterly award are made by NU employees, students, alumni, parents or other persons who come in contact with NU employees. Honorees are eligible to receive gift certificates to area amenities, movie passes, two days off during the next quarter, NU athletics tickets and a universal parking tag that can be used in any non-handicapped parking spot on campus.
