Assemblyman John Ceretto met Wednesday with Gov. Andrew Cuomo to finalize an agreement to end the dispute surrounding the Peace Bridge. As a result, significant economic improvements to the Peace Bridge on the American side will be made and the Buffalo and Fort Erie Public Bridge Authority will not be dissolved. The agreement will be ratified on Friday.

"I am very happy with the Peace Bridge agreement and that the much-needed improvements on the American side of the bridge can now move forward," Ceretto said. "The people of Western New York deserve these improvements that will promote economic development and job creation. I maintained, even through the most contentious parts of negotiations, that I hoped an agreement could be reached. Thanks to the bipartisan leadership of the governor, we can move forward with the improvements and take a step to end the stagnant Western New York economy."

The 15-year-old dispute between New York and the Canadian authorities dealt with improvements needed on the American side of the Peace Bridge. Ceretto's camp said a pre-inspection facility must be built in Fort Erie in order to improve the flow of traffic.

According to the agreement, the Peace Bridge Authority will proceed immediately and a study will be conducted to determine ways to improve traffic congestion at the U.S. plaza, including the possibility of widening the road.
