Mayor Robert G. Ortt has announced Niagara River Cruises Inc. will begin their summer operations beginning on Saturday, June 8. North Tonawanda will be one of the three pickup locations for the new business venture initiated by Robin Hoch and Tom Hauser, two avid local boaters.

The 42-foot Harker Island Custom, newly named "Queen of Peace," will be in operation on Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays for tours along the Erie Canal and Niagara River between Grand Island, Niagara Falls and North Tonawanda. The vessel also will have special events such as a Fourth of July fireworks cruise, canal music cruises, history cruise and a Labor Day cruise. Private charters can also be reserved for birthdays, weddings, showers, corporate events, groups and reunions.

"Tom and I noticed an opportunity to have tours along the Erie Canal and Niagara River, and wanted to have people enjoy the view from the water's perspective," Hoch said.

"We are excited to welcome Niagara River Cruises to North Tonawanda," Ortt said. "This is a great opportunity for people to come to North Tonawanda and enjoy the sights and sounds of our great community by visiting our downtown business corridor and surrounding area during the summer season."

The daily tour schedule, pricing and online reservations can be obtained by visiting the Niagara River Cruises website at www.niagararivercruises.org.
