Conference focuses on elder care

The Coalition of Agencies in Service to the Elderly will hold its 24th annual spring networking conference, "Navigating Transitions: Preparing for the Next Phase of Life," from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 8, at the American Legion Post 1451 at 6525 Ward Road, Sanborn.

The conference will feature information on advance care planning, a community resource fair, door prizes, refreshments and a boxed lunch.

Elder Law Attorney Elizabeth Ingold will speak about transitioning from home to other locations of care and what you need to know about estate planning, power of attorney, guardianship, living wills and health care proxies. She will also discuss legal responsibilities of the caretaker. A panel of geriatric care managers will discuss details involved in the transition into long term care including financial responsibilities, laws, regulations and qualifications.

Open to the public, the conference is recommended for professionals who work with the aging population, including social workers, community service providers and health care professionals.
