Erie County Sheriff's Office Report for April 19, 2013

The Erie County Sheriff's Office responded to 184 calls from April 6 to 12. Below is a sampling of the noteworthy incidents on Grand Island.

Deputies responded to 13 burglary false alarm calls during the dates of this report.

Saturday, April 6

•Grand Island Boulevard, reckless operation - A complainant stated that a vehicle was swerving all over the roadway. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate the vehicle.

•South State Parkway, driving while ability impaired by drugs - Following a traffic stop, deputies arrested a 40-year-old woman from Grand Island for driving while ability impaired by drugs. The woman agreed to have a sample of her blood taken for chemical analysis and results are pending. She was issued an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Grand Island Court.

•Lasalle Avenue, animal complaint - A complainant stated that a neighbor's dogs were outside barking loudly during the early morning hours. The dog control officer was notified.

•Fairview Court, residential fire - Deputies assisted the Grand Island Fire Co. for a report of an oven fire.

•East River Road, traffic arrest - Following a traffic stop, deputies arrested a 20-year-old man from Grand Island for aggravated unlicensed operation in the third degree after a Department of Motor Vehicles check showed his license was currently suspended. The man was issued an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Grand Island Court.

•Ransom Road, all-terrain vehicle operation - A complainant stated that several ATVs were operating at the property of the Grand Island High School. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate the ATVs.

•Whitehaven Road, endangering the welfare of a child - Deputies responded to a report of a male subject who had inappropriately touched a female child at the a hotel. Deputies' investigation led to the arrest of a 24-year-old man from Rochester for endangering the welfare of a child (a class A misdemeanor) and harassment in the second degree (a violation). The man was transported to the Erie County Holding Center in lieu of $600 bail.

•Whitehaven Road, disorderly conduct - While deputies were on location at the hotel, they arrested a 21-year-old man from Boxborough, N.Y., and a 22-year-old woman from Buffalo for disorderly conduct (a violation). The man was transported to the Erie County Holding Center in lieu of $100 bail, and the woman was issued an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Grand Island Court.

•Whitehaven Road, criminal mischief - Deputies responded to a report of a disturbance at a hotel. Numerous car windows were broken as a result of beer bottles being thrown at them. Deputies' investigation led to the arrest of a 19-year-old man from Northumberland for criminal mischief in the third degree (a class E felony). The man was issued an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Grand Island Court.

Sunday, April 7

•Whitehaven Road, fight - Deputies responded to a report of a fight at a hotel. Deputies located one subject with an injury to his hand who was treated at the scene for seemingly not life-threatening injuries. All parties were advised as no individuals stated they had knowledge of the fight.

•West Park Court, residential burglary - A complainant stated that an unknown subject broke into her house, but it did not appear anything was missing. An investigation into the matter is ongoing.

•Bedell Road, traffic control device - Deputies responded to a report of a stop sign that was down on Bedell Road at East River Road. Grand Island Highway Department was notified and responded to replace the sign.

•Stony Point Road, suspicious incident - A complainant stated that several motorcycles were in the street and performing tricks in the roadway. Deputies located the motorcyclists and advised them.

•South State Parkway, motorist broke down - Deputies assisted a motorist whose vehicle had become disabled.

Monday, April 8

•Stony Point Road, wire down - A complainant stated that wires from a utility pole were hanging low. Deputies were unable to locate any low-hanging wires.

•Grand Island Boulevard, suspicious person - A complainant stated a male subject was asking people for money outside of a gas station. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate the subject.

•Whitehaven Road, suspicious vehicle - Deputies located an unoccupied vehicle in the a golf course parking lot during the late evening hours.

Tuesday, April 9

•Huth Road, animal loose - A complainant stated that a large dog was running loose in the area of Huth Road Elementary School. Deputies were unable to locate the animal. The dog control officer was notified.

•I-190, reckless operation - A complainant stated that a vehicle was driving all over the roadway. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate the vehicle.

Wednesday, April 10

•Ransom Road, suspicious person with vehicle - A complainant stated that a subject was sitting inside of a vehicle near the residential development site on Ransom Road. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate the vehicle or subject.

•Center Terrace, welfare check - Deputies responded to a report of a 911 hang-up call. Deputies spoke to the occupants and determined the call to be a misdial.

•South State Parkway, traffic control device - Deputies responded to a report of a malfunctioning traffic light South State Parkway at Love Road. The Grand Island Highway Department responded to fix the traffic light.

•Colonial Drive, pistol permit investigation - Deputies conducted a background check of an individual who applied for a pistol permit.

•Tracey Lane, pistol permit investigation - Deputies conducted a background check of an individual who applied for a pistol permit.

•East Park Road, animal loose - Deputies found a dog running loose in the neighborhood. Deputies were able to locate the owner and the dog was returned.

Thursday, April 11

•Baseline Road, motorist broke down - Deputies assisted a motorist whose vehicle had become disabled.

•Grand Island Boulevard, suspicious person - A complainant stated that a male subject was standing on the shoulder of the road and it appeared his shirt was torn. Deputies located the subject who was waiting for the bus.

•Grand Island Boulevard, larceny - Employees at a supermarket stated that a subject left the store without paying for groceries and then left in a vehicle, nearly striking an employee. Deputies were unable to locate the vehicle in the immediate area. The New York State Police were able to find the vehicle in Niagara Falls after being notified by deputies of the information on the suspect vehicle. Deputies' investigation led to the arrest of a 37-year-old man for petit larceny (a class A misdemeanor) and reckless endangerment in the second degree (a class A misdemeanor). The man was arraigned in the Town of Grand Island Court and remanded to the custody of the Erie County Sheriff's Office in lieu of $10,000 bail.

•Ransom Road, animal loose - A complainant stated that a large dog was running loose in the area of the Grand Island High School. Deputies were unable to locate the animal. The dog control officer was notified.

Friday, April 12

•I-190, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a one-car motor vehicle accident. No injuries were reported.

•Grand Island Boulevard, disturbance public place - A complainant stated that a loud argument was taking place in the parking lot of a bar. Deputies responded and advised all parties involved.

•Grand Island Boulevard, suspicious incident - A complainant stated that a female subject who appeared to be intoxicated was getting into a vehicle to leave a business. The vehicle left in an unknown direction prior to the arrival of patrol. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate the vehicle.

•South State Parkway, criminal mischief - A complainant stated that the driver of a vehicle was throwing stones out of his window and the stones were striking the complainant's vehicle. Deputies located the driver and advised him. The complainant declined to press charges.

•South State Parkway, animal loose - A complainant stated that a dog was running loose in the neighborhood. The dog control officer was notified.

•Grand Island Boulevard, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a two-car motor vehicle accident. No injuries were reported.

•Baseline Road, welfare check - Deputies responded to a report of a 911 hang-up call. Deputies spoke to the occupants and determined the call to be a misdial.

•Baseline Road, deer struck - Deputies responded to a report of a one-car motor vehicle accident involving a deer. No injuries were reported.

•Whitehaven Road, vehicle fire - Deputies assisted Grand Island Fire Co. for a report of a vehicle fire at a golf course.
