Friends of the Night People's 10th annual Putting Hunger on the Run 5K Race and Walk will take place on Sunday, April 7, starting at 10 a.m. on Niagara and Vermont streets in the lower west side of Buffalo.

The fundraiser assists Friends of Night People in their services to provide basic and essential support to the homeless and working poor who utilize their programs daily. In 2012, 83,052 meals were served, an increase of 17 percent from 2011.

The racecourse is U.S.A.T.F. certified. Awards will be given to overall male and female, and first, second and third place winners for each age and class categories. A donation of previously worn running shirts is encouraged, as awards will be given for oldest shirt, most shirts and farthest away shirts. A shirt from San Francisco took the prize for the distance award in 2012.

Sponsors include National Grid, Noco, New York State Podiatric Medical Association, Key Bank's Elmwood and Summer branch, Unifrax, Delta Sonic and Wegmans.

Entry fee is $20. Race registration is now under way at www.FriendsofNightPeople.com, or may be done on the day of the race beginning at 8 a.m. April 7 at the D'Youville College Center, 320 Porter Ave.
