Since 1973, the Grand Island Neighbors Foundation has been providing emergency assistance to Grand Island residents who find themselves in temporary need. This strictly volunteer-driven organization partners with local community organizations to collect and stock donations of food, toiletries, and other household supplies in its pantry based at the Old St. Stephen R.C. Church. This year, the need for support within the community has continuously risen to an all-time high, with current demand from needy families reaching about four times previous levels.

Following a lead from Linda Tufillaro of the Neighbors Foundation Board of Directors, the boys and families of Troop 510 Boy Scouts, based at Trinity United Methodist Church, organized a collection of toiletry items to support the pantry at this time of heightened need. Over a two-week period, the boys collected shampoos and conditioners, soaps, toothpaste and toothbrushes, razors, etc. In addition, the troop and families made monetary donations totaling $170.

Dobmeier Janitor Supply of Englewood Avenue in Buffalo also generously contributed several large boxes of toilet paper, paper towels, and body wash/ shampoo. Linda Dobmeier, company vice president, commented, "I know that Troop 510 has a strong record of community service on Grand Island. After hearing about how these boys and their families had made such an outstanding effort to support the Neighbors Foundation, we were delighted to be able to supplement their collection of toiletries."

The donations were presented to Dennis Dahl of the Neighbors Foundation, at their pantry, on Monday, March 11.
