Improved design simplifies navigation for users as peak of filing season approaches

The website that's visited daily by tens of thousands of tax professionals, taxpayers and local officials statewide -www.tax.ny.gov - is now streamlined for easier navigation, the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance announced Thursday.

The Tax Department's Web revamp comes before taxpayers enter the peak of the income tax filing season. The clear design and simple navigation makes it easier to file returns, check refund status, and complete other tax-filing tasks.

"Since our website is often the first point of contact for taxpayers and their representatives, we constantly strive to improve its ease-of-use," said Commissioner Thomas H. Mattox. "This redesign aligns with Gov. Cuomo's efforts to make state government more accessible to all New Yorkers."

The department's website, which offers key guidance in multiple languages, was viewed nearly 100 million times in 2012, with more than 22 million views already this year.

The new design also makes it easier to locate and launch 60 online services that simplify tax administration for businesses, individuals, tax professionals and local officials. More than 700,000 businesses have already used the department's online services to file returns, pay taxes and complete other tax tasks.

"The design of our website matters because it helps taxpayers, tax professionals and local officials fulfill their tax responsibilities," Mattox added. "This is part of our customer-centric strategy to provide an ever higher quality of service."
