Fans encouraged to donate cell phones at all home games in March

The Buffalo Sabres "Green Team" has again teamed up with the non-profit Cell Phones for Soldiers organization to provide troops serving in the U.S. military with cost-free methods of communication with their loved ones.

The collection drive welcomes donations of gently used mobile phones during all six of Buffalo's March home games at First Niagara Center, beginning with the Sabres vs. Devils game on Saturday, March 2. In addition to all home games throughout March, donations can be made at any time during the promotion at account services, whose normal hours of operation at First Niagara Center are Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and on Saturdays from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m.

Donated cell phones will be sent to Michigan-based ReCellular for recycling. For every donated phone, Cell Phones for Soldiers is able to provide two and a half hours of free talk time for deployed troops.

The Buffalo Sabres are dedicated to the sustainability of the environment in Western New York and Southern Ontario through the "Blue & Gold Make Green Initiative." The organization is committed to creating programming to help its fans reduce their environmental footprint and, at the same time, educate Sabres fans on conservation issues, teaching fans how to be greener, and directing them to additional resources where they can learn more about environmental issues.

The Green Program, presented by National Fuel, is supported by Sabres' "Green Partners" NOCO and Modern Recycling.
