The History Center of Niagara recently received a New York State Council for the Humanities grant to develop and implement interpretive programming on the War of 1812 in Niagara County.

The War of 1812 Project Grant is a special initiative that awards up to $3,000 to cultural organizations to conduct programming connected to the bicentennial of the war. The History Center project includes the creation of a map detailing sites in Niagara County that are associated with the War of 1812. The map will be available this summer.

In addition, the History Center will present a special lecture and PowerPoint program devoted to the history of the conflict and its relationship and impact on Niagara County. This program will be presented by Ann Marie Linnabery, assistant director of the History Center, on Thursday, May 23 at 7 p.m., at the History Center, 215 Niagara St., Lockport. The program will be repeated again on Saturday, June 22, at 11 a.m. at the Erie Canal Discovery Center, 24 Church St., Lockport.

Both programs are free and open to the public. For more information, call the History Center at 716-434-7433 or email [email protected].
