What began as a simple idea earlier last week blossomed into a sight to see Sunday afternoon at Seneca Niagara Casino & Hotel. A small group of servers at The Western Door: A Seneca Steakhouse learned about "Goin' Bald for Bucks" - a fundraising program through Roswell Park Cancer Institute - and decided to take part.
Cancer particularly "hit home" for them, as a former manager and a co-worker's 1-year-old daughter are affected. As word spread, so did the participants and the donations.
Altogether, 15 Seneca team members from throughout the casino - including six women - took part in Sunday's event, which was held at The Spa & Salon. Donations began coming in just a few days ago, but were already past a total of $5,000 as of Sunday afternoon.
The event was part of Seneca Gaming Corp.'s "Team Seneca Cares" goodwill program - which includes volunteering and fundraising activities for more than 30 worthy local causes each year.
