Erie County Sheriff's Office Report for Feb. 15, 2013

The Erie County Sheriff's Office responded to 165 calls from Feb. 2 to Feb. 8. Below is a sampling of the noteworthy incidents on Grand Island.

Deputies responded to 10 burglary false alarm calls during the dates of this report.

Saturday, Feb. 2

Stony Point Road, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a one-car motor vehicle accident. No injuries were reported.

•Alvin Road, welfare check - Deputies responded to a report of a 911 hangup call. Deputies determined the call to be a mistake.

•Alvin Road, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a one-car motor vehicle accident. No injuries were reported.

•Whitehaven Road, motorist broke down - Deputies assisted a motorist whose vehicle had become disabled.

•Whitehaven Road, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a one-car motor vehicle accident. No injuries were reported.

•Staley Road, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a two-car motor vehicle accident. No injuries were reported.

•Warner Drive, shots fired - A complainant stated that he heard several shots fired in the area. Deputies checked but were unable to locate the source.

•Grand Island Boulevard, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a one-car motor vehicle accident. No injuries were reported.

•Bedell Road, loud music - A complainant stated that loud music was coming from a residence in her apartment complex during the late hours of the night. Deputies located the source and advised the subjects.

Sunday, Feb. 3

•Baseline Road, motorist broke down - Deputies assisted a motorist whose vehicle had become disabled.

•Pin Oak Circle, criminal mischief - A complainant stated that sometime during the night, an unknown person(s) threw eggs at his house. Minor damage was reported.

•Long Road, trespass - A complainant stated that he observed a subject enter the Dunlop Tire Corp. building. Deputies located an open door to the premise but were unable to locate any subjects.

•Whitehaven Road, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a two-car motor vehicle accident. No injuries were reported.

•Grand Island Boulevard, drunk driving - Deputies arrested 50-year-old Mary Jankowiak of Grand Island for driving while intoxicated after she was stopped at a DWI checkpoint on Grand Island Boulevard. Jankowiak was further charged with felony driving while Intoxicated and endangering the welfare of a child (Class A misdemeanor) due to the fact that a passenger in the vehicle was under the age of 16 years old. Jankowiak refused to submit a sample of her breath for chemical analysis and was issued an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Grand Island Court.

Monday, Feb. 4

•Whitehaven Road, traffic control device - A complainant stated that the traffic light at the intersection did not appear to be functioning properly. Deputies checked and the light appeared to be operating normally.

•East Park Road, suspicious incident - A complainant stated that a subject was in his yard and looking into the windows. Deputies' investigation led to the arrest of a juvenile offender for trespass (a violation). The juvenile offender was issued an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Grand Island Court.

•Bedell Road, suspicious incident - A complainant stated that he heard a subject yelling in his apartment complex. Deputies checked the complex but were unable to locate the subject.

Tuesday, Feb. 5

•Grand Island Boulevard, traffic arrest - Following a traffic stop, deputies arrested 18-year-old Kaila Barnes of Niagara Falls after a DMV check showed the registration to her vehicle was suspended. Barnes was issued traffic tickets returnable to the Town of Grand Island Court.

•Fieldstone Drive, suspicious vehicle - A complainant stated that a suspicious vehicle with out of state plates was parked on the street for several days. Deputies were able to locate the owner and advised him.

Wednesday, Feb. 6

•Stony Point Road, animal injury - A complainant stated that a deer appeared to be injured and was lying in the snow.

•Whitehaven Road, criminal mischief - A complainant stated that sometime in recent weeks, an unknown person(s) damaged a school bus on the property by attempting to burn the seats. An investigation into the matter is ongoing.

•Grand Island Boulevard, larceny - A complainant stated that while she was at her vehicle in the Walgreens parking lot, an unknown female subject walked over to her car and stole various items from her purse. The female then left in an unknown direction. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate the subject.

Thursday, Feb. 7

•Baseline Road, theft of services - A cab driver stated that he had a customer who did not have money to pay her cab fare. Deputies arrested a juvenile offender for theft of services (Class A misdemeanor). The juvenile offender was issued an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Grand Island Court.

•Bedell Road, unlawful possession of marijuana - A complainant stated that when she entered her apartment complex, she could smell a strong odor of marijuana coming from another apartment. Deputies investigation led to the arrest of 20-year-old Cullen Hensley of Grand Island for unlawful possession of marijuana. Hensley was issued an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Grand Island Court.

•Carl Road, residential burglary - A complainant stated that sometime in recent days, an unknown person(s) pried open a door to his residence and stole various items. An investigation into the matter is ongoing.

•Grand Island Boulevard, motorist broke down - Deputies assisted a motorist whose vehicle had become disabled.

Friday, Feb. 8

Whitehaven Road, motorist broke down - Deputies assisted a motorist whose vehicle had become disabled.

•West River Road, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a one-car motor vehicle accident. No injuries were reported.

•Stony Point Road, accident with injury - Deputies responded to a report of a one-car motor vehicle accident. Persons on scene were treated for seemingly minor injuries.

•Whitehaven Road, wire down - A complainant stated that a utility wire was hanging on the side of the road. Deputies checked but were unable to locate any downed wires.

•Baseline Road, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a two-car motor vehicle accident. No injuries were reported.

•Love Road, motorist broke down - Deputies assisted a motorist whose vehicle had become disabled.

•Alt Boulevard, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a one-car motor vehicle accident. No injuries were reported.

•Grand Island Boulevard, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a one-car motor vehicle accident. No injuries were reported.

•Pin Oak Circle, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a two-car motor vehicle accident. No injuries were reported.
