Erie County Sheriff's Office Report for Feb. 8, 2013

The Erie County Sheriff's Office responded to 187 calls from Jan. 26 to Feb. 1. Below is a sampling of the noteworthy incidents on Grand Island.

Deputies responded to 10 burglary false alarm calls during the dates of this report.

Saturday, Jan. 26

•Staley Road, suspicious person - Deputies observed a male subject walking during the late hours of the night. The subject was advised.

•Long Road, motorist broke down - A complainant stated that a vehicle was broken down in the area of Long Road and the I-190 overpass. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate vehicles broken down.

•Staley Road, deer struck - Deputies responded to a report of a one-car motor vehicle accident involving a deer. No injuries were reported.

•Grand Island Boulevard disturbance - Employees at a restaurant stated that a male and female subject were yelling at each other in the store and causing a disturbance. The subjects left in a vehicle prior to the arrival of patrol. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate the subjects.

•Baseline Road, suspicious vehicle - A complainant stated that a vehicle was driving erratically on Baseline Road. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate the vehicle.

•Grand Island Boulevard robbery - An employee of a restaurant/lounge stated that, as she was locking up the business, a male subject approached her vehicle in the parking lot. The subject shoved her aside, stole her purse, and fled on foot into the neighboring apartment complex on Bedell Road. The suspect was described as approximately 5 feet, 4 inches tall and with a thin build. Deputies, along with the assistance of a K9 unit, searched the area but were unable to locate the suspect. Anyone with any information on this incident is encouraged to call the Erie County Sheriff's Office at 716-858-2903. An investigation into the matter is ongoing.

•Baseline Road, suspicious person - Deputies located a male subject walking during the late evening hours. The subject was advised.

•Whitehaven Road, drunk driving - Deputies responded to a report of a one-car motor vehicle accident. Their investigation led to the arrest of a 22-year-old woman from Buffalo for driving while intoxicated, unlawful possession of marijuana (violation), criminal possession of a controlled substance seventh degree (a class A misdemeanor) and other traffic infractions. The woman registered a .11 percent blood-alcohol content after submitting a sample of her breath for chemical analysis. She was issued an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Grand Island Court and then released to a sober third party.

Sunday, Jan. 27

•East River Road, drunk driving - Following a traffic stop, deputies arrested a juvenile offender for driving while intoxicated and other traffic infractions. The juvenile offender registered a .09 percent blood-alcohol content after submitting a sample of his breath for chemical analysis. The juvenile was issued an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Grand Island Court and then released to a sober third party.

•Baseline Road, suspicious person - Deputies located a male subject walking on Baseline Road near the pipeline. The subject was advised.

•Grand Island Boulevard, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a three-car motor vehicle accident. No injuries were reported.

•Ransom Road, hit-and-run accident - A complainant stated that, sometime during the night, an unknown person struck his parked vehicle with their car. Minor damage was done to the complainant's vehicle.

•Stony Point Road, shots fired - A complainant stated that he heard several shots fired in the area of his residence. Deputies determined the shots to be coming from the gun club.

•Whitehaven Road, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a two-car motor vehicle accident. No injuries were reported.

•Whitehaven Road, parking violation - A complainant stated that a vehicle was unlawfully parked in a handicapped spot in his apartment complex parking lot. Deputies cited the vehicle in violation.

•Grand Island Boulevard, suspicious vehicle - Deputies located a suspicious vehicle parked in a restaurant parking lot during the late evening hours. Deputies spoke to the owner and advised him.

Monday, Jan. 28

•Love Road, deer struck - Deputies responded to a report of a one-car motor vehicle accident involving a deer. No injuries were reported.

•Ransom Road, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a one-car motor vehicle accident. No injuries were reported.

•Broadway, welfare check - Deputies responded to a report of a 911 hang-up call. Deputies spoke to the occupants and determined the call to be a misdial.

•East River Road, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a one-car motor vehicle accident. No injuries were reported.

•South State Parkway, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a one-car motor vehicle accident. No injuries were reported.

Tuesday, Jan. 29

•Baseline Road, larceny - A complainant stated that, sometime during the night, someone stole various items from his unlocked vehicle.

•Bedell Road, residential burglary - A complainant stated that, sometime during the day, an unknown person stole various items from her apartment. An investigation into the matter is ongoing.

•Baseline Road, suspicious incident - A complainant stated he found various empty alcoholic beverage containers in the basement of his apartment complex. No damage was observed.

Wednesday, Jan. 30

•Center Court North, loud music - A complainant stated that loud music was coming from an apartment in his complex. Deputies spoke to the occupants of the address in question and advised them.

•Long Road, suspicious incident - A complainant stated that a subject was cutting down a tree on a vacant property. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate the subject.

•Alvin Road, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle - Employees at a car dealership stated that a vehicle was stolen from the sales lot sometime in the past week. An investigation into the matter is ongoing.

Thursday, Jan. 31

•Stony Point Road, suspicious person - A complainant stated that two subjects were standing next to his residence when he pulled into his driveway. The subjects then fled in an unknown direction. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate the subjects. No damage was observed.

•Whitehaven Road, welfare check - Deputies responded to a report of a 911 hang-up call. The call was determined to be a problem with the phone lines.

•Stony Point Road, wire down - Deputies responded to a report of low hanging wires in the roadway.

•Long Road, open door/window - A complainant stated that a door to his neighbor's residence was open and it did not appear his neighbor was home. Deputies checked the residence and found nothing out of order. The door was secured.

Friday, Feb.1

•Whitehaven Road, traffic arrest - Following an investigation of a broken-down motorist, deputies arrested a 23-year-old man from Central Square, N.Y., for aggravated unlicensed operation in the third degree and other traffic infractions. Also arrested was the passenger of the vehicle, a 23-year-old man from Central Square. The passenger was charged with obstruction of governmental administration in the second degree (a class A misdemeanor) and resisting arrest (a class A misdemeanor). Both the driver and passenger were transported to the Erie County Holding Center pending their arraignment in the Town of Grand Island Court.

•Whitehaven Road, suspicious vehicle - A complainant stated that a suspicious vehicle was parked in the Nike Base parking lot during the early morning hours. Deputies located the owner and advised him. No damage was observed on the premise.

•Baseline Road, warrant arrest - Following a traffic stop, deputies arrested a 34-year-old man from Grand Island after a check showed he had an outstanding bench warrant from Town of Niagara Court. The man was turned over to the custody of the Town of Niagara Police Department.

•Bedell Road, loud music - A complainant stated that loud music was coming from an apartment in her complex. Deputies spoke to the occupants of the apartment in question and advised them.

•Grand Island Boulevard, motorist broke down - Deputies assisted a motorist whose vehicle had become disabled.

•Ward Park Road, loud music - A complainant stated that loud music was coming from a residence in the neighborhood. Deputies spoke to the occupants of the residence and advised them.
