The New York Power Authority will display historic photos and projects focusing on the 150th anniversary of the Emancipation Proclamation during Black History Month in February at its admission-free visitors center, the Power Vista, 5777 Lewiston Road, Lewiston.

The Black History Month exhibit kicks off Feb. 2, in the lower level of the Power Vista. It will feature various reproductions of historic photos about the Emancipation Proclamation from the Library of Congress. There also will be the unveiling of projects submitted by students from local schools. Movies about Abraham Lincoln and the Emancipation Proclamation will start at 10:30 a.m. in the Power Vista classroom. Additional activities will include a 12:30 p.m. presentation by Michael Durfee, an African-American history specialist at Niagara University, titled, "Degrees of Freedom: Unpacking the Emancipation Proclamation."

Photos of the Cataract House in the City of Niagara Falls, from the Niagara Falls Public Library, will be displayed with an essay about the historic role the Cataract House played in Niagara Falls. The essay was submitted by William Bradberry, chairman of the Niagara Falls Underground Railroad Heritage Commission.
