Hundreds of local businesses, community groups, hospitals, towns and schools will be wearing red on Feb. 1 to help raise awareness and funds to fight the number one killer of women - cardiovascular disease.
The campaign is part of the American Heart Association's 10th annual National Wear Red Day in which participants wear red, donate $5 to join the Go Red For Women movement and receive a red dress pin, all to help raise awareness of heart disease.
"Now is the time to act. Heart disease is still the number one killer of women, and 90 percent of women have one or more risk factors for developing heart disease," said Dr. Jo Anne Cobler, cardiologist and chair of the Go Red Passion Committee for the American Heart Association. "With the right information, education and care, heart disease in women can be treated, prevented, and even ended."
On Friday, Feb. 1, represent women everywhere by wearing red on National Wear Red Day.
Western New York will be Glowing Red that evening as Niagara Falls, the Peace Bridge, Electric Tower and other office parks light up in red. The Go Red For Women movement in Western New York is sponsored by Catholic Health with media support from WKBW-TV. Visit http://www.GoRedForWomen.org or call 716-614-1980 to learn more.
