Erie County Sheriff's Office Report for Jan. 25, 2013

The Erie County Sheriff's Office responded to 168 calls from Jan. 12 to 18. Below is a sampling of the noteworthy incidents on Grand Island.

Deputies responded to five burglary false alarm calls during the dates of this report.

Saturday, Jan. 12

•West River Road, animal bite - A complainant stated that she was walking her dog and two other dogs attacked hers. The dog control officer was notified.

•Oak Harbor Road, trespass - A complainant stated that several subjects were on his property and they did not have permission. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate the subjects. No damage was observed.

•Grand Island Boulevard, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a one-car motor vehicle accident. No injuries were reported.

•Whitehaven Road, suspicious incident - While on patrol, deputies heard several loud bangs coming from the area. The noise seemed to be from someone using fireworks, but no subjects were located.

•Stony Point Road, shots fired - A complainant stated that he heard several shots fired in the area of his residence. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate the source. No further shots were reported.

•Woodlee Lane, loud music - A complainant stated that loud music was coming from a party in the neighborhood during the late evening hours. Deputies located the residence and advised the occupants.

Sunday, Jan. 13

•West River Road, suspicious vehicle - Deputies located a suspicious vehicle parked on West River Road during the late hours of the night. The driver stated he was lost, and he was provided with directions.

•Grand Island Boulevard, motorist broke down - Deputies assisted a motorist whose vehicle had become disabled.

•Stony Point Road, marijuana possession - Following a traffic stop, deputies arrested a juvenile offender for unlawful possession of marijuana. The juvenile offender was issued an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Grand Island Court.

•Grand Island Boulevard, reckless operation - A complainant stated that a vehicle was swerving all over the roadway. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate the vehicle.

Monday, Jan. 14

•Grand Island Boulevard, suspicious vehicle - A complainant stated that a vehicle was parked in a lot of a closed business. Deputies located the vehicle and the owner, who was conducting repair work to the structure.

•Foxcroft Street, animal loose - A complainant stated that a dog was running loose through the neighborhood. The dog control officer was notified.

Tuesday, Jan. 15

•Whitehaven Road, larceny - A complainant stated that, sometime during the night, someone stole license plates from his vehicle.

Wednesday, Jan. 16

•East River Road, suspicious incident - A complainant stated that it appeared her handicap vehicle tag was stolen from her vehicle.

•Alvin Road, customer trouble - Employees at a car dealership stated that several customers were being disruptive and refusing to leave. Deputies located the subjects and advised them. The subjects left without further incident.

•Alt Boulevard, larceny - A complainant stated that a credit card was stolen from a business office at an unknown time.

•Whitehaven Road, deer struck - Deputies responded to a report of a one-car motor vehicle accident involving a deer. No injuries were reported.

•Grand Island Boulevard, criminal mischief - A complainant stated that, sometime during the day, someone damaged his vehicle.

•East River Road, suspicious vehicle - A complainant stated that a pickup truck was in the Whitehaven Cemetery during the late evening hours. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate the vehicle. No damage was observed.

•River Oaks Drive, road obstruction - Deputies removed several Christmas trees that had blown into the roadway.

•Love Road, road obstruction - Deputies located broken glass in the roadway. The glass was removed.

Thursday, Jan. 17

•Grand Island Boulevard, residential fire - Deputies assisted the Grand Island Fire Co. after receiving a 911 call reporting a house on fire. All occupants were able to escape the residence without injury. Damage was reported as minimal by the fire company.

•Grand Island Boulevard, suspicious vehicle - Employees of a business stated that two vehicles were parked in the lot for approximately an hour and they appeared to be occupied. Deputies located the vehicles and advised the drivers. The subjects left without incident.

•Whitehaven Road, vehicle fire - Deputies responded to Whitehaven Road after a passing motorist reported seeing a vehicle on fire on the I-190. Deputies and Grand Island Fire Co. were unable to locate any vehicles on fire.

•Schwegler Road, barking dog - A complainant stated that a neighborhood dog was barking for several hours. The dog control officer was notified.

•Amberwood Drive, harassment - A complainant stated that he was receiving numerous phone calls from persons that appeared to be attempting to scam him for money.

Friday, Jan. 18

•Whitehaven Road, suspicious vehicle - A complainant stated that a vehicle was parked in the cemetery during the late hours of the night. The vehicle left prior to the arrival of patrol. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate the vehicle. No damage was observed.

•Grand Island Boulevard, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a one-car motor vehicle accident. No injuries were reported.

•Bedell Road, fraud - A complainant stated that someone used her bank card to make purchases in another state.

•Grand Island Boulevard, suspicious person - A complainant stated that a subject entered a store and was asking for directions to the rehab center. The subject left shortly after. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate the subject.

•Ransom Road, welfare check - Deputies responded to a 911 hang-up call at Grand Island High School. Deputies checked the school and were unable to locate any persons in need of assistance.

•Settlers Row, suspicious person - A complainant stated that two teenage boys pounded on her door and then fled the area on foot. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate the subjects. No damage was observed.
