Town of Niagara Police Blotter for Jan. 10, 2013

The Town of Niagara Police received a total of 7,654 calls in 2012.

The following is a sampling of calls received by the Town of Niagara Police between Dec. 21, 2012, and Jan. 7, 2013.

Friday, Dec. 21

•5000 block of Tindal Lane, burglary. Victim stated that between 3:15 and 4 p.m. someone kicked in his front door. No damage was found inside the residence, but a lawn ornament was broken.

•1900 block of Military Road, check situation. Patrol responded to a mall on a report of three small children, ages 9, 5 and 2, who were left unattended in an unlocked vehicle in the mall parking lot. A 28-year-old 20th Street woman was arrested on three counts of endangering the welfare of a child.

•Laur Road, disabled vehicle. Car parked roadside and appeared to be a hazard. Driver stated she was afraid to drive (road condition) and had called her mother to pick her up.

•Porter Road, Witmer Road, Fashion Outlet Boulevard, accidents. A two-car accident and two cars in ditches were reported due to icy conditions.

Saturday, Dec. 22

•3000 block of St. Paul Street, check situation. Patrol checked a residence where the occupant said someone smashed a bottle in front of his house. No one seen in area. Complainant intoxicated. Patrol called back on a report of someone trying to kick in the door No additional footprints seen in snow. Occupant advised it was time for bed.

Sunday, Dec. 23

•Military Road near Lockport Road, driving while intoxicated. Patrol stopped the driver of a pickup truck for speeding. Patrol arrested the 42-year-old driver for DWI. He had an open can of beer in the cup holder and a 30-pack on the passenger side floor. He had a BAC reading of .18 percent.

•4500 block of Fox Avenue, domestic. A woman was hysterical because her ex-husband took her children out of state for the holidays, which she said was against a court order.

Monday, Dec. 24

•1900 block of Military Road, larceny. A woman reported she parked her newly purchased 2012 Volkswagen Beetle in the north mall parking lot and when she returned someone had entered the car and took two license plates, an iPod and its car charger from the front seat.

•2500 block of Military Road, larceny. Two males were arrested for shoplifting. A 23-year-old from 24th Street reportedly concealed an Xbox game in his pants and a 12-year-old hid a controller in his jacket.

Tuesday, Dec. 25

•6700 block of Packard Road, larceny. An employee reported a male wearing a black hoodie came into the store, concealed a snack pie valued at $3 on his person and ran off.

Wednesday, Dec. 26

•3000 block of St. Paul Street, vandalism. Complainant said he was staying with his brother when they heard someone kicking front door; he stated he saw the mother of his brother's child running down the street with an unknown male.

•7000 block of Walmore Road, aid assist. Patrol assisted Sheriff's Office with an armed standoff and securing a perimeter with a suicidal subject who had a gun.

Thursday, Dec. 27

•2900 block of Military Road, open door. Snow plow driver reported an open bay door in the rear of a business. No sign of forced entry. Business manager contacted.

•8500 block of Third Avenue, check situation. Caller reported she heard someone enter the residence and possibly go to the basement. Patrol entered an unlocked door and found the caller's son in the living room.

Friday, Dec. 28

•Lockport Road, accident. Driver reported he was traveling east toward Military Road when he struck a deer that ran into the roadway. Injured deer dispatched by patrol.

•Tuscarora Road, arrest. Patrol stopped a vehicle for having an expired inspection sticker. Passenger was arrested, arraigned and transported to Niagara County Jail after he gave patrol false information and it was discovered he had an active warrant out of North Tonawanda.

•4800 block of Tindal Lane, juvenile problem. Caller reported two unknown juveniles, about 12 years old, were urinating on he side of his house.

Saturday, Dec. 29

•5600 block of Lockport Road, DWI. A 23-year-old Lewiston man was arrested for driving while intoxicated after his car was found with the engine running in a business lot. The driver was passed out behind the wheel.

•1900 block of Military Road, check situation. Caller reported a van parked in a fire lane outside of a business with two young children left inside alone for more than a half hour. Gone on arrival.

Sunday, Dec. 30

•6400 block of Grauer Road, larceny. Complainant reported someone entered his vehicle overnight and took about $20 in cash and change.

•8000 block of Cherry Lane, juvenile problem. Juveniles throwing snowballs at each other. Mother complained that one threw ice at her son.

•2500 block of Military Road, larceny. A 16-year-old and a 14-year-old were arrested for shoplifting after they concealed $269.90 worth of video games and controllers in their jackets.

•Laur Road and Woodland Avenue, DWI. A 66-year-old Miller Road woman was arrested for DWI after she was involved in a two-car accident.

Monday, Dec. 31

•3700 block of Mayle Court, neighborhood disturbance. Patrol responded on a report of a group of about 15 people fighting. Officers observed about 10 juveniles/young adults walking toward Lockport Road. They stated the fight was over and no one wanted to file charges.

•3100 block of Woodland Avenue, neighborhood disturbance. Patrol responded on a complaint of parties shining a laser pointer in the window of a house across the street. Parties denied it. Patrols advised them to extinguish a large bonfire in back yard and to refrain from loud behavior.

•7000 block of Lockport Road, alarm. Patrol responded to the recreation center in the town park and noted heavy water flow coming from inside the building and a door halfway ajar. It appeared ceiling collapsed and debris hit the crash bar on the door and opened it. Niagara Active Hose responded to turn off the water.

Tuesday, Jan. 1

•3700 block of Highland Avenue, aid assist. Patrol assisted Niagara Falls Police with a large fight.

•6900 block of Joanne Circle, EMS. Patrol assisted Niagara Active Hose and Rural Metro Ambulance with a 67-year-old female who fell in the driveway and was exposed to the weather for four hours.

Wednesday, Jan 2

•Expressway Village, juvenile problem. Complainant reported juveniles throwing snowballs at his vehicle.

•9900 block of Porter Road. Patrol responded with Niagara Active Hose and the Niagara Falls Air Reserve Station Fire Department to the old airport terminal for a fire alarm. Alarm was coming from the control tower. Fire department handled.

Thursday, Jan. 3

•Steele Circle, assist fire department. Patrol and fire department responded to a residence for a fire. Caller was disoriented and didn't know by the fire department was there. Rural Metro transported him to a hospital for an evaluation.

Friday, Jan. 4

•6300 block of Edgewood Drive, fire. Patrol arrived on scene to find heavy smoke coming out the windows and four subjects just inside doorway. The four were evacuated, at which time the windows began to blow out and flames began shooting out of the front and rear of the house. Niagara Active, Upper Mountain, Lewiston No. 2 and Frontier volunteer fire companies responded. Residents stated they were cleaning out the fireplace and had placed hot coals in a plastic tub and put it on the porch. Damage was estimated at $100,000 to the structure and contents.

•Licata Drive, domestic. Patrol arrested a 16-year-old youth after finding him hiding behind a Military Road business. His parents wished to prosecute because they said they couldn't control him any more and that he had punched holes in walls and kicked in his bedroom door.

Saturday, Jan. 5

•Lockport and Military roads, DWI. A 41-year-old Laur Road man was arrested for DWI after he was seen driving westbound on Lockport Road swerving over lane marker lines. He said he'd had about 12 beers. His license was suspended for failure to pay child support. He refused to submit to a test on the alcohol sensor.

•6200 block of Theresa Lane, local law violation. Three teenage males were arrested for discharging .22 caliber rifles, violating town law against discharging a firearm in the town.

Sunday, Jan. 6

•Packard and Hasely roads, Packard and Lockport roads, Military Road, Lockport Road, traffic tickets. Patrols issued tickets in eight separate incidents for offenses including failure to signal turn, revoked registration, insurance lapse, speeding, going through a red light, failure to wear a seatbelt, cracked windshield, not using headlights, following too closely and having an expired inspection sticker.
