Remarks from parents, students and reformers to celebrate arrival of National School Choice Week 'Special'

by National School Choice Week

Retracing the same route that President Abraham Lincoln used to travel by train to his Inauguration in January of 1861, the nation's first-ever whistle-stop train tour for school choice is set to make four key stops in New York on Friday, Feb. 1, and Saturday, Feb. 2 (http://www.schoolchoiceweek.com/train).

"Buffalo families concerned about their educational options are valiantly leading in the fight for school choice in Western New York," said Andrew Campanella, president of National School Choice Week. "This event is both by and for the parents, students, educators and community leaders who demand not just great educational choices, not just many educational choices, but the right educational choices for each of Buffalo's children."

Campanella will speak at the event, along with Buffalo Bishop Richard J. Malone, State Sen. Mark Grisanti, and Sam Radford, president of the Buffalo District Parent Coordinating Council.

This is the third annual National School Choice Week. Planned by a diverse, bipartisan coalition of citizens and organizations, National School Choice Week 2013 runs from Jan. 27 through Feb. 2 and will feature more than 3,500 events spanning all 50 states.

The National School Choice Week "Special" is scheduled to travel through the following cities, each of which will host whistle-stop-themed events with parents, students and dynamic speakers:

  • Los Angeles (Friday, Jan. 25)
  • Albuquerque, N.M. (Saturday, Jan. 26)
  • Topeka, Kan. (Monday, Jan. 28)
  • Kansas City, Mo. (Monday, Jan. 28)
  • Chicago (Tuesday, Jan. 29)
  • Milwaukee (Wednesday, Jan. 30)

  • Buffalo (Friday, Feb. 1)
  • Rochester (Friday, Feb. 1)
