As part of a yearly tradition since 1999, members of the boys junior varsity basketball team at Grand Island High School and the members of the GIHS Venture Yearbook have teamed up for a noteworthy cause. Students from the groups organized a small toy drive during the last week of school before the holidays. They collected more than 11 large bags of toys to be distributed to kids staying at Roswell Park Cancer Institute over the holidays. Any leftover toys will be used in the emergency department at Roswell or put into their play area for the kids who stay in the hospital.

Coach and adviser Chris Simpson said that many people in the community and school donated toys as well as the staff and players' families.

Courtney Czajka was the contact person and editor in charge of the organization of the toys. Along with her brother Colton and her father Tom, Simpson, and Mark and Manny Montes, toys were delivered to the children's unit in the afternoon of Christmas Eve.
