Assemblyman John D. Ceretto, R-C-I-Lewiston, has announced he was appointed ranking member of the New York State Assembly Committee on Tourism, Parks, Arts and Sports Development. As ranking member, Ceretto will play a larger bipartisan role within the committee and its procedures.

"I am honored to be appointed ranking member of the committee on tourism," Ceretto said. "Niagara Falls and our Western New York area play a large role in New York's growing tourism economy, something we must work to enhance. In the last year, we've seen the success of Nik Wallenda; we've seen that the governor's $1 billion commitment to Western New York includes a sizeable tourism component; we've seen the future of the Maid of the Mist secured; and we've seen the beginnings of a $25 million infusion of capital into the historic Niagara Falls State Park. I'm excited to keep the momentum moving forward."

Ceretto also announced his appointment to the Assembly committee's on cities, election law, labor and energy.

"I am well positioned in my new committee assignments to effectively represent my district," he said. "My selection to serve on the labor committee brings my experience as a laborer and union leader to the committee. My selection to serve on the energy committee is very appropriate as our Niagara Power Project, located in my district, powers much of New York. I am excited to build on the progress of these last two years and help move New York state and Western New York forward."
