Niagara Hospice and Northgate Health Care Facility recently held a holiday tree lighting celebration at Hospice at Jeanne's House - A Northgate and Niagara Hospice Collaboration. Prior to the tree lighting, residents throughout Northgate were serenaded with Christmas carols by more than 35 Boy Scouts from Pack 193 and their families.

Later, Associate Director of Hospice and Palliative Care Nate Kennedy dedicated the beautifully decorated Hospice holiday courtyard. The glow of the holiday season illuminated the courtyard of Jeanne's House as Niagara Hospice spiritual care coordinator Deacon Gary Terrana provided a moving message about the evergreen and why it is used as a symbol of the season.

Following the illumination, the Scouts, residents, families, staff and volunteers enjoyed Christmas cookies and a hot cocoa bar inside with Santa and Mrs. Claus. More than 50 family members took part in the event, honoring loved ones who are currently living at Jeanne's House, and those who have passed away.

The evergreen tree, donated by Erway's Christmas Tree Adventure in Wilson, was adorned with ornaments featuring each of the resident names, and guests were given Jeanne's House ornaments as a memento.

Hospice at Jeanne's House is a unique unit designed specifically for residents receiving hospice care in a long-term care setting. The unit is affectionately named "Hospice at Jeanne's House - A Northgate and Niagara Hospice Collaboration" after a beloved Northgate employee who utilized Hospice services herself. It is devoted to meeting the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of terminally ill residents requiring both 24-hour skilled nursing care and unique services.

The collaboration is the first of its kind in New York. For more information, visit www.McGuireGroup.com and www.NiagaraHospice.org.
