Erie County Sheriff's Office Report for Dec. 14, 2012

The Erie County Sheriff's Office responded to 147 calls from Dec. 1 to 7. Below is a sampling of the noteworthy incidents on Grand Island.

Deputies responded to 11 burglary false alarm calls during the dates of this report.

Saturday, Dec. 1

•Baseline Road, suspicious person - A complainant stated that a suspicious person was asking people for a place to park his car to sleep during the late hours of the night. Deputies located the subject, who was unable to find a hotel room for the night. The subject was advised.

•Staley Road, criminal mischief - A complainant stated that, sometime during the night, a window on her vehicle had been broken.

•Colonial Drive West, animal loose - A complainant stated that a loose pit bull was running through the neighborhood. The dog had come after the complainant, but he was able to scare it off. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate the dog. The dog control officer was notified.

•Grand Island Boulevard, parking violation - Deputies located a vehicle parked in the fire lane at a supermarket. The owner was located and advised.

Sunday, Dec. 2

•East Park Road, trespass - A complainant stated that several youths were in the backyard of a vacant neighboring house. Deputies located three subjects, who were charged with trespass (a violation) and unlawful possession of alcohol by persons under age 21 (a violation). The juvenile offenders were issued appearance tickets returnable to the Town of Grand Island Court.

•Fix Road, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a vehicle that had struck a garage on Fix Road. No injuries were reported, and the accident caused minor damage to both the vehicle and the residence.

•White Tail Run, parking violation - Deputies located a vehicle parked illegally on White Tail Run. The owner was located and advised.

Monday Dec. 3

•East River Road, animal loose - A complainant stated she found a loose dog that belonged to a neighbor. The complainant was unable to contact the neighbor to return the animal. The dog control officer was notified.

•Island Park Circle, suspicious vehicle - A complainant stated that a suspicious vehicle was parked in the street and appeared to be occupied. Deputies located the vehicle and the driver, who was a construction worker awaiting the arrival of other crew members to complete work in the area.

•West River Road, found property - Deputies found a purse and a wallet in the area.

•West River Road, fraud - A complainant stated that someone opened a credit card in her name and made fraudulent purchases.

•Baseline Road, deer struck - Deputies responded to a report of a one-car motor vehicle accident involving a deer. No injuries were reported.

Tuesday, Dec. 4

•Grand Island Boulevard, suspicious vehicle - Deputies located a suspicious vehicle in a business parking lot. The vehicle belonged to a night security officer at the park.

•Alvin Road, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a one-car motor vehicle accident. No injuries were reported.

•Ransom Road, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a two-car motor vehicle accident. No injuries were reported.

•Whitehaven Road, traffic control device - A complainant stated that the traffic light at Whitehaven and Baseline roads was not functioning properly. Deputies checked, but the light was operating properly and not causing a hazard.

•River Oaks Drive, larceny - A complainant stated that an engagement ring was stolen from her residence sometime in recent days. An investigation into the matter is ongoing.

•Grand Island Boulevard, property found - Deputies found a wallet in the area.

•Baseline Road, identity theft - A complainant stated that someone attempted to use his credit card to make unauthorized online purchases.

Wednesday, Dec. 5

•East River Road, suspicious vehicle - A complainant stated that a suspicious vehicle pulled into the woods near her residence. Deputies located the vehicle but were unable to find the owner.

•Grand Island Boulevard, welfare check - Deputies responded to a report of a 911 hang-up call. Deputies were able to speak to the homeowners, and the call appeared to be a mistake.

•Grand Island Boulevard, traffic arrest - Following a traffic stop, deputies arrested a juvenile offender after a check showed his license was currently suspended. The juvenile offender was charged with aggravated unlicensed operation in the third degree and other traffic citations, returnable to Town of Grand Island Court.

•Love Road, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a one-car motor vehicle accident. No injuries were reported.

•Grand Island Boulevard, burglary - Employees at a business stated that someone stole money from the business sometime in recent hours. An investigation into the matter is ongoing.

Thursday, Dec. 6

•Grand Island Boulevard, larceny - A complainant stated that, sometime in recent days, a known person or persons stole his cell phone while he was working at a business. An investigation into the matter is ongoing.

•Grand Island Boulevard, suspicious person - A complainant stated that he observed a subject laying in the roadway while another subject was trying to pull him up. Deputies checked and spoke to multiple individuals in the area, all who denied being in the roadway.

•Huth Road, traffic/marijuana arrest - Following a traffic stop, deputies arrested 28-year-old man from Grand Island after a check showed his license was currently suspended. The man was also found to be in possession of marijuana. He was charged with aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle in the third degree, unlawful possession of marijuana (a violation) and other traffic citations returnable to Town of Grand Island Court.

Friday, Dec. 7

•I-190, traffic/warrant arrest - Following a traffic stop, deputies arrested a 26-year-old man from Grand Island after a check showed his license was currently suspended. The man also had an outstanding bench warrant from the Town of Amherst. He was charged with aggravated unlicensed operation in the second degree and other traffic infractions. He was then transferred to the custody of the Amherst Police Department.

•Whitehaven Road, hunting complaint - A complainant stated that two subjects parked a vehicle and entered the woods close to her residence to hunt. Deputies checked the area, but the truck left prior to patrol's arrival.

•Bedell Road, barking dog - A complainant stated that a neighbor's dog was constantly barking, and that it was an ongoing problem. The dog control officer was notified.

•Cardinal Lane, harassment - A complainant stated that a known male subject chased his daughter down the street. Deputies' investigation led to the arrest of a 20-year-old man from Grand Island, who has been charged with three counts of menacing in the third degree (a class B misdemeanor) and three counts of endangering the welfare of a child (a class A misdemeanor). The man was transported to the Erie County Holding Center pending arraignment in Town of Grand Island Court.

•Schwegler Road, disturbance - A complainant stated he heard what appeared to be persons fighting in the area. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate any subjects fighting.

•Stony Point Road, accident with injury/pedestrian struck - Deputies responded to a report of a pedestrian struck by a motor vehicle on Stony Point Road. The pedestrian was transported by Mercy Flight to the Erie County Medical Center, where he was listed in serious condition. The Erie County Sheriffs Office Accident Investigation Unit responded and an investigation into the incident is ongoing.

•The Commons, shots fired - A complainant stated he thought he heard several gunshots in the area. Deputies checked the area but did not hear any gunshots.
