Food drive continues to benefit Community Missions during holiday season

The annual Niagara Electric Lights Parade, which took place on Saturday, Nov. 3, continues to share its generosity through its Parade Food Drive. Food bins are still available for food drop off until Dec. 21. Items will support Community Missions of Niagara Frontier.

This year, the parade team looked to raise more than one ton of food to assist those in need this holiday season.

Food bins are currently located at the following locations: Marsh's General Store on Porter Road, Strenkoski Brothers Construction Co. on Porter Road, Tops International on Niagara Falls Boulevard, RR Donnelly on Grand Island Boulevard, Fashion Outlets of Niagara Falls on Military Road, and Save A Lot on Williams Road in Wheatfield.

Community Missions Inc. is a human service, not-for-profit organization that serves marginalized populations residing within Niagara County. It was founded in 1925 and has been providing basic necessities such as food, clothing and shelter since its inception.

Community Missions served 71,159 meals in 2011 and provided more than 8,500 nights of care to families and individuals in need. The organization has experienced a need increase of nearly 20 percent since 2010 in the use of crisis and community services.
