ROTC cadets from Niagara University, and students at Lewiston-Porter Middle School teamed up with the St. Vincent de Paul Society at St. Peter's Church in Lewiston to help families in need of assistance at Thanksgiving.

Members of Lew-Port's Builders Club, under the guidance of the club's adviser, Tina Oddy, sponsored a competition among classes to see which grade could donate the most food. The effort produced hundreds of pounds of canned foods, which were used to supplement the turkeys and other foodstuffs purchased by the St. Vincent de Paul Society.

Boxes with all the necessary items for preparing Thanksgiving dinner were distributed to 45 families in Lewiston, on the Tuscarora Reservation, and in Niagara Falls.

Preparing to load the canned goods for transport from Lew-Port to St. Peter's are, from left, NU cadets Shawn Kiely, a sophomore from Ransomville; Christian Beaucage, a junior from Baldwinsville; Charles Streb, a junior from York; and Matthew Mulvihill, a senior from Middletown. Also Lew-Port eighth-graders Tom Marchese, Liam Mazierski and Andy Carrigan; and Ken Kenney and Alan Schug (in truck), members of the St. Vincent de Paul Society.
