The Niagara County Auxiliary Police is hosting an open house event for upcoming NCAP and New York State Peace Officer academies. The open house will be held on Sunday, Dec. 16, from noon to 4 p.m. at the Niagara County Emergency Management Facility, 5574 Niagara St. Ext., Lockport. Individuals interested in becoming a recruit who attend the open house can speak with current members of the NCAP and NCAP administration/officers about what is required.

The NCAP will have an informational table set up in the Fashion Outlet Mall, 1900 Military Road, on Saturday, Dec. 15, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and from noon to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 16. Current members of the NCAP will be present to answer questions about upcoming academies and collect items of warmth (winter hats, gloves, scarves and mittens) for local shelters and community organizations. New or slightly used items will be accepted.

The NCAP serves the community by assisting with local law enforcement. All members are sworn peace officers and on average receive approximately 170 hours of academy training and state peace officer certification provided at no cost.

To apply, potential recruits must be residents of Niagara County, citizens of the U.S., age 21 or up, and submit to multiple background checks. Men and women interested in applying to the NCAP can also obtain information at www.niagaracountyauxiliarypolice.com or 716-438-3171.
